Discover Columbus

As the fifteenth largest city in the U.S., the city of Columbus has a diverse economy based on education, insurance, government, fashion, aviation, medical research, etc. In 2009, BusinessWeek named Columbus as the best place in the country to raise a family.

 

Named for explorer Christopher Columbus, the city was founded in 1812 at the confluence of the Scioto and Olentangy rivers, and assumed the function of state capital in 1816.

 

Although home to several popular sports team, Columbus is perhaps best known as being the home of the Ohio State Buckeyes football team, an intercollegiate varsity sports team of the Ohio State University. In their 121-year history, the Buckeyes have claimed seven national championships.
