Powell is proud to have been named a Tree City USA by The National Arbor Day Foundation for 12 years in a row! To be considered as a Tree City USA, Powell had to meet four standards: to have an organized tree board or department, a tree care ordinance in place, a comprehensive community forest program, and an Arbor Day observance. As a Tree City USA community, the trees our city plants and cares for today will cool and beautify our community, increase property values, help clean the air and water, and conserve energy for generations to come.
While we take great pride in our small-town hospitality, we don’t reserve it just for visitors. Our residents are treated to ample city services and conveniences, miles of walking and biking trails, access to parks, and thoughtfully planned neighborhoods.
The population remained small until the late 1980’s, when residential development expanded from the northern Columbus Metro area to Powell.
